Professor Dr Peter Christianen
Radboud University, High Field Magnet Lab (HFML)
Prof. dr. P.C.M. Christianen has longstanding experience in the experimental investigation of hard and soft condensed matter in strong magnetic fields, mainly using optical techniques. He is head of the RU HFML research group “Soft Condensed Matter & Nanomaterials” and he is responsible for the optical and soft matter user programmes at RU HFML.
He uses magnetic levitation and orientation to manipulate seemingly non-magnetic, soft materials, like polymers, molecular aggregates, organic crystals and liquid crystals. He is also interested in the magneto-optical properties of low dimensional organic and semiconductor structures, such as nanowires and (colloidal) quantum dots.
